Quitling Bee

In my upcoming show "Strumpets and Squares" I am introducing some quilted wall hangings. I am a frustrated seamstress. I go to sit down and sew and end up with a horrible bobbin jam or a big chunk of fabric gets stuck and I end up putting a big hole in it. I am also too much of a "free spirit" to do major detailed sewing. Measure twice cut once!
I have an altered ART friend Joanie who is a master quilter! How blessed am I. She can whip a project into shape in no time. I had an idea of how it should all go together but really no clue as what I should use or how to go about it. I am sooooooo thankful for her help.

Shaun came by with Ashie (Im sure I spelled her name wrong) she is a big SWEETIE. Shaun is sweet too.

re: Vintage Across Indiana Episode 1307

New work for the Upcoming show at AV Framing Gallery First Friday in February.

Okay Okay Okay.....back in 2002 I was on a PBS special along with Norman Bridwell and Bill Blass (both Hoosiers) and they have re-run it several times since it first aired 7 almost 8 years ago.....But, this week it has been playing and I have been hearing from a lot of people that they have seen it. Frist of all I am 7-8 years younger and smaller and I no longer make the work that they featured. I have evolved and moved on to my new work. So if you have stumbled on this blog this is what I have become and thank you for taking a looksie. Feel free to leave a comment.

I have decided to take this time to share a love story since we are coming upon Feb. which is the month of LOVE. I have been married 6.5 years to Mr. Angleton and the love story starts on 11/23/2002 just 5 days after my episode aired. We met online and were chatting but had not met....I told him this was coming on and he tuned in....he knew way more about me including the fact that I talk out of one side of my mouth when I am nervous. Our first meeting was at Borders bookstore and he was sooooo SHY and I had to pull every word out of him...3 dates later me told a joke and made me laugh and 6 months later we got married. So when I think of this little show on PBS it reminds me of how things all came together with Ed and I. He also thought it was kinda cool that I was on TV little did he know he would have his five minutes of FAME when he was on Jeopardy for 3 episodes!!!!

Sara Adams of AV Framing Gallery and I had a little interview talking about my upcoming show with our local NPR station WFYI 90.1. Art of the Matter focuses on local artists and artistic happenings in the area. It will air this coming Friday at 8pm and Saturday at 4pm.

Something my Grandmother always said.....

My Grandmother was a wise old soul. She always said in the midst of any kind of turmoil try to keep your live as normal as possible. I have been trying to do this my whole life. We can sit in front of the TV all day watching the accounts of the day's news or we can go to the store, work on art, visit with friends and keep things as normal as possible. I am experiencing yet another change (which I will blog about in the coming days) but for now the SHOW must go on. I am working towards the finish line for my upcoming solo show opening the FIRST FRIDAY in February at AV Gallery in Fountain Square.....here is a SnEaK pEaK....! I still have to make it's companion piece.

I was delighted when I had lunch at the LEGEND cafe in Irvington today (where I have a show) to discover that I have sold 5 more plates! It always feels good to sell. I am working on my upcoming show at AV framing and gallery will post some pictures tomorrow.

VINTAGE it is!

If you have peeked at my etsy shop lately you will find it filled with vintage. I have always been a collector of all things old so I have decided to add vintage to my shop. This is a white Haegar ceramic floral vase-pottery. Another find for this week. A trio of old prints that appear to be hand tinted. Nice frames.

Reminds me of something Mary Tyler Moore would have hanging in her apartment from the MTM shows. This etc. is an early resin.

These beauties were made in JAPAN. Size 23 anyone?

Happy 2010 !

2009 was a year of incredible change. Discovery. Challanges. Hope and (even) Sadness.

I am thankful right now that Ed is not sick. My favorite Marine is home safe. That I am blessed with so many friends. My Mother who is always so helpful. Thankful that we (ed&I)have plans for 2010 that will hopefully allow us to move on. I am going to continue to be open to change and opportunities. I am thankful for the Cafes, Restaurants, Galleries, shops, salons and shows that I have been a part of in 2009. I do have to be honest 2009 has been a hard year for many artists like myself. The economy has been a real issue. We also compete with artists and craftspeople who are fully employed that are doing this on the side for extra money. A few fairs have ended after 35 plus years. We are competing with thousands of other artists for one space at art fairs due to the modernization of applying for shows (Zapplication) and all these factors are just making it harder and harder to make a living as an artist. I will survive. Somehow. I will work differently and continue to be open to whatever comes my way. My first goal is to load up my etsy store http://www.jennyelkins.etsy.com/ with work and vintage items so I don't have to load the car (as much) or rent a space or drive far. I will go back to basics hosting some open houses where I live. I will always create. Making things is such a big part of who I am. If you get nothing else from this post please understand how important it is to support local artists, restaurants, hardware stores, musicians, etc....that is what makes our lives so much more interesting. The sadness I mentioned early on is for the losses we all experience during a year. Friendships that fade away, Freinds and family that are struggling so hard to remain healthy or to recover. I hope that 2010 is a year to remember for all the good that will come from it. Happy New Year!
